Formula 1 Personality 2009

Hello and welcome to the inaugural F1Heaven Formula 1 Personality of the Year!

The Decisions are made by myself but if you have any disagreement then feel free to tweet about it or comment on the site ( SORRY - I currently believe the comments are broken but you can comment on the Live text page)

I have made the choices on which Person in Formula 1, be that driver or anything else in F1, everyone stands a chance. Maybe, that is, except Flavio!

So below are my decisions with a few nominees who were very close to the win, but this year no one has stood out more than him. And if you want to finish reading and just guess its who youd think it is then you may be surprised!

The Nominees

In no particular order

1. Lewis Hamilton
This Season Lewis has had a real tough year. At the start of the year Mclaren were more then half a second of the pacesetters of BrawnGP. Lewis however, pushed the car to the limits constantly and got a good string of results in the early races. Mid-way through the season however he and his team had no such luck. But the part which really stuck out was how the car was turned around and at Hungrary, he won a race. Lewis Hamilton has been chosen this year for his true grit and determination in the bad times and the real belief that better things can happen.

2. Jenson Button
In December 08, Jenson really thought he was out of Formula 1 forever. That is until Honda came out of the ashes as a newly reformed Brawn GP. Jenson for years now has had the talent but has not had the car to spread his wings and fight for Championships like he has this year. Jenson lead the World Championship from start till finish. He won 6 out of the first 7 races but after that everything just spiralled away. His lead was being eaten away and the car wasnt getting any better. Jenson kept his cool and under his immense pressure he still managed to score some points in most races. And no one can forget his championship winning drive in Interlagos, Brazil. From 14th to 5th he clinched the title with a race to spare. Jenson Button has been chosen this year for his belief for the title and his performances under pressure.

3. Christian Horner
Christian Horner is the team principal at Red Bull Renault. The team has come from strength to strength in the last few years and finally this year the team has been able to fight for wins and more importantly the championship. He is famed for his leg shaking at important parts of races and is a great personality around the paddock. Christian Horner has been chosen this year for his brilliant team management and push for the championship in a happy calm manner.

4. Giancarlo Fisichella
'Fisi' drove for Force India for the most part of the season and in a uncompetitive car, very nearly and perhaps should have won a race if it wasnt for Kimi and his KERS. Giancarlo has really driven the Force India well. Towards the latter part of the season he got his 'dream drive' with Ferrari. He didnt do well at Ferrari as he couldnt get used to the change of car but he really deserved it. Giancarlo Fisichella has been chosen this year for his great attitude and driving ability in a seemingly slower car he is really deserving of a high level drive and i hope i see him in a race next year.

The Winner!
Ross Brawn
I have officially chosen Ross Brawn as the F1Heaven Formula1 Personality of the year.
Ross has had a brilliant year. He bought the Honda team back from extinction as the BrawnGP team. From the off set the Brawn car was a good amount faster than all the other cars on the grid. He carried the team through all the hard times and kept really cool under pressure. He always believed in his team and worked really well to try to keep the car competitive with a small amount of cash compared to most of the other teams. His new team ended up winning the Constructors Championship. Not at any point could you tell he was under pressure and it just shows what a great leader he must have been. He was awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year honours list. I wish him and his newly renamed team MercedesGP real good luck and great successes in the future!
